Accounting Manager

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounting Manager with a solid background in the construction industry. The ideal candidate will oversee the company's accounting operations, ensure compliance with financial regulations, and provide strategic financial guidance. This role requires a strong understanding of construction project accounting, including budgeting, cost control, subcontractor payments, and project-based financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll
• Manage accounting for multiple construction projects, ensuring accurate cost tracking and reporting
• Develop and maintain project budgets, monitor actual costs vs. budget, and report variances
• Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
• Coordinate with project managers to forecast costs and revenues
• Review and verify subcontractor invoices, purchase orders, and material costs
• Oversee bank reconciliations, journal entries, and cash flow management
• Ensure compliance with local financial laws, taxation, and audit requirements
• Prepare financial statements and reports for senior management and external stakeholders
• Support external audits and liaise with auditors
• Implement and maintain internal controls and accounting policies
• Assist in the development of financial strategies and risk management

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or equivalent certification is preferred)
• 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a construction or project-based industry
• Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, including WIP, cost codes, retention, and progress billing
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Odoo, or construction-specific ERP systems)
• Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills
• Advanced Excel skills and ability to work with data for financial analysis
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Fluent in English; Kurdish/Arabic is a plus

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with project-based accounting systems
• Familiarity with contract management, progress billing
• Understanding of project lifecycle and its financial implications
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
